The formal proceedings began at 1.05pm with a brief welcome address given by Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. This was followed by short addresses by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, by Douglas Alexander, the Shadow Foreign Secretary and by Theresa May, the Home Secretary.

Rt Hon Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change said:

“It is a real privilege for us to host the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community today. We know well the amazing work His Holiness (Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad) does for the cause of peace and also the members of the Ahmadiyya Community. Thus it is absolutely fitting that so many MPs are here to thank you for being loyal and hard-working members of society.”

Rt Hon Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister said:

The most important values and ethos which the Ahmadiyya Community has steadfastly communicated to millions of people around the world is of course one of peace, of love and one of reconciliation and that is a message which is enduring, powerful at all times – amongst all ages and in all communities… We all join with you, whatever background, political party or religious background, in celebrating the presence of your community here over a hundred years but also to celebrate the message the community has so quietly, steadfastly and with dignity been spreading and communicating for so long – one of peace, love and reconciliation.”

Rt Hon Douglas Alexander, Shadow Foreign Secretary said:

“In a world of ever greater diversity and challenges that message of reconciliation is needed more than ever before. I want to place on record our admiration for the leadership you (Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad) have personally shown and collectively your community has shown, for the work you have done, the difference you have made and the service you continue to do not just for the members of the Ahmadiyya Community but being a powerful voice for tolerance, reconciliation and for peace. ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ is a philosophy from which we can all benefit and from which we have a lot to learn in the years ahead.”

Rt Hon Theresa May, Home Secretary said:

“His Holiness (Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad) has shown and continued to show that the only effective way of persuading extremists out of their poisonous convictions is peaceful dialogue. That is a message that you are giving around the world and it is a message we should all listen to and heed. I know that you have been targeted as a community yourselves, particularly in Pakistan, where it is a criminal offence for Ahmadis to call themselves Muslims, and where you have been subjected to some horrific attacks. I am absolutely committed to tackling all forms of extremism wherever it occurs… I have every confidence that in another 100 years there will be a group of people celebrating 200 years of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Britain. Thank you for all that you have contributed here in the United Kingdom and not just here but also the message you are giving around the world.”

During his keynote address, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad spoke of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s commitment to peace and tolerance; he spoke of the importance of loyalty to one’s country as a part of Islamic faith; he strongly condemned the recent brutal killing of a British soldier in London; he absolutely rejected the concept of a violent Jihad in today’s world and he appealed for justice in an effort to safeguard the world from warfare and conflict.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad began his address by addressing directly all people associated with the Houses of Parliament by saying:

“It is my sincere hope and prayer that all of the departments and people who work within this beautiful and grand building are able to fulfil the rights of serving this country and its people. I also hope and pray that they are able to work in the best possible manner towards fostering good relations with other nations, to act with justice and so make decisions that are of benefit to all parties. If this spirit is adopted then it will reap the very best fruits, which are of love, affection and brotherhood and will lead the world towards becoming a true haven of peace and prosperity.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that loyalty to one’s country was an essential part of Islamic faith and that it had been “emphatically ordered” by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said that all Ahmadi Muslims living in the UK desired “the progress and prosperity of this great nation.” His Holiness also praised the British public for welcoming immigrants to the United Kingdom and allowing them to become “part of the fabric of British society.”

The Khalifa continued by stating that throughout its 100 year existence in the United Kingdom the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat had always promoted peace and rejected all forms of extremism.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“These past 100 years prove and serve witness to the fact that the members of the Ahmadiyya Community have always fulfilled the requirement of being loyal to their country and have always steered absolutely clear of all forms of extremism, rebellion and disorder. In reality, the fundamental reason for this loyal and loving approach is due entirely to the fact that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a true Islamic religious community.”

The world leader continued by condemning and rejecting absolutely the concept of a ‘violent Jihad’. He accepted with regret that some other ‘so-called’ Muslim scholars promoted such teachings but said they were entirely wrong and responsible for the formation of various terrorist groups and the radicalisation of certain individuals.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The most recent example of terrorism was, of course, the brutal killing of an innocent British soldier on the streets of London. It was an attack which had absolutely nothing to do with the real teachings of Islam; rather, Islamic teachings vehemently condemn such acts.”

Later in his address, His Holiness appealed for mutual religious respect and tolerance. He said that Islam had given the foundation for peace because the Quran taught that prophets of God were sent to all peoples and nations.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“No other religion so willingly and openly praises every faith and every nation as Islam does.”

Describing the true character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“It was the Founder of Islam who developed the love of God and the love of His creation in our hearts. It was he who ingrained and established love and respect for all of mankind and for all religions within us. The Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) spent his entire life spreading peace in the world. That was his noble mission. Certainly, there will come a day when the people of the world will realise and understand that he did not bring any teachings of extremism. They will realise that all he brought was a message of peace, love and kindness.

Explaining that freedom of religion was a fundamental tenet of Islam, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“If a person’s heart desires then they are free to accept Islam, but if their heart does not, then they are free to reject it. Therefore, Islam is completely against compulsion and extremism; rather, it advocates peace and harmony at all levels of society.

The Khalifa concluded by speaking about the critical need for justice in the modern world. He said that he feared current conflicts could escalate into a world war unless all forms of discrimination and inequality were rooted out.

 Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Due to the acts of certain countries the signs are that another world war is on the horizon. If a world war breaks out then the Western world will also be deeply affected by its far-reaching and devastating consequences. Let us save ourselves from such destruction. Let us save our future generations from the miserable and devastating consequences of war. There is a real risk of a nuclear war breaking out. To prevent such a horrific outcome, we should adopt justice, integrity and honesty and join together to suppress and stop those groups who wish to spread hatred and who wish to destroy the peace of the world.”

The event concluded with a silent prayer and thereafter guests were able to personally meet with Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

The Centenary Celebrations were attended by 68 dignitaries, including 30 MPs and 12 Members of the House of Lords, including 6 Cabinet Ministers and 2 Ministers. Various media organisations including the BBC, Sky TV and ITV were also present to cover the event.

Prior to the event the three main party leaders had all written in support of the Centenary. Whilst congratulating the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP said Britain could be proud of the Community and he praised Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad as “a man of peace.”

Khalifa of Islam visits Mayor of London

Mayor of London invites Khalifa of Islam to City Hall

Khalifa of Islam visits Mayor of London

On 19 November 2012, Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, welcomed Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Fifth Khalifa and World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, to City Hall.
During the 45-minute meeting the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat and the Mayor discussed various issues, including the establishment of world peace, the true peaceful teachings of Islam, the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in fighting extremism and the persecution faced by the Jamaat in certain countries.
Praising the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat’s motto of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ the Mayor said that such a message ‘ought to be the foundation for London’. Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that it ought to be the basis not only for London but for the ‘entire world’.
The Mayor congratulated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on raising more than £350,000 for UK based charities in the past year and also for its efforts in supporting the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Boris Johnson said the efforts of the Jamaat under the leadership of Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad were ‘truly wonderful’.
The Mayor also spoke of his delight at the various London Bus advertising campaigns conducted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in which Islamic teachings of ‘peace, justice and equality’ had been promoted.
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad explained the theological differences between Ahmadi Muslims and non-Ahmadi Muslims. He said the basic difference is that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat believes its Founder, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, to be the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi.
His Holiness said that after the demise of the Promised Messiah, the institution of Khilafat had begun and he himself was the Fifth Khalifa (Successor) of the Promised Messiah. His Holiness said that though he was a direct descendent of the Promised Messiah, Khilafat was not in any way a hereditary institution.
The leaders discussed the persecution faced by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Pakistan. Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad informed how he had spent 11 days in jail, prior to his election, on charges that proved to be entirely false. His Holiness described the conditions of the jail to be hostile and extremely overcrowded.
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that in all areas Ahmadi Muslims were persecuted in Pakistan and due to State legislation and provisions they were unable to even exercise the basic civil right to vote.
The Mayor spoke of how he had found the address given Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad at the Peace Symposium 2012 to be ‘extremely thought provoking’. He said he had been interested to hear the view of the Khalifa about the risks of a nuclear war and world peace.
His Holiness said that he remained extremely concerned that nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of extremists and thus cause huge destruction to the world.
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was pleased to see that a copy of the Holy Qur’an on the bookshelf of the Mayor had actually been translated into English and published by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
The meeting ended with the Mayor stating that he would continue to offer his ‘full support’ to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in all respects. Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad thanked him on behalf of the worldwide Jamaat and said he hoped the mutual friendship would continue to develop.
Following the conclusion of the meeting the Mayor escorted His Holiness to an outside balcony to view the London skyline. After an exchange of gifts both the Mayor and His Holiness answered questions for MTA International.

New Mosque Opened by World Muslim Leader in Manchester

The Darul Amaan Mosque inaugurated by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is pleased to announce that on 27 April 2012, its world leader, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, inaugurated the new Darul Amaan Mosque in the City of Manchester, United Kingdom. This was the sixth new Mosque inaugurated by His Holiness in the United Kingdom in 2012.
The Mosque was opened when His Holiness led the Friday Sermon, which was broadcast globally on MTA International. During his sermon, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad reminded the worshippers that it was not enough simply to build a Mosque, but that it ought to be filled with sincere worshippers of God Almighty.

Later in the day, His Holiness held a private meeting with local dignitaries. Thereafter an official reception to mark the opening of the Mosque was held at the Mosque premises, which was attended by dignitaries and guests from various backgrounds.
In his welcome address, Dr Naseer Choudhry, the Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat informed that the Mosque could hold up to 2,000 worshippers. He added that the Mosque was entirely funded by members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
Councillor Harry Lyons, the Lord Mayor of Manchester, said he was delighted that the Mosque had been situated at a site which was only a few hundred metres from where he had been born and brought up. He said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat had the ‘ full support of the Manchester City Council’ .

Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, said the new Mosque was a ‘beautiful’ addition to Manchester and she congratulated the Ahmadiyya Community on the inauguration of Darul Amaan.

Sir Gerald Kaufman, MP for Manchester Gorton, said that though he had been a Member of Parliament for forty-two years, attending the opening of the Darul Amaan Mosque ranked amongst his personal highlights. He concluded by saying that he prayed ‘that God continues to smile upon your Community’.
John Leech, MP for Manchester Withington, said the new Mosque stood as a ‘beacon’ amongst all the other buildings in the area and was a wonderful addition to the landscape. He congratulated the Community for having raised the funds for the Mosque on its own and in such a quick time.
The highlight of the evening was the keynote address given by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in which he outlined the true objectives of a Mosque in Islam. He also used his address to promote inter-faith harmony and integration between people of all backgrounds.
His Holiness said that people generally limited themselves to the company of people of similar interests and backgrounds but that it was essential that people of all backgrounds came together so that a unified society could be built.
His Holiness said:
“It is a source of great pleasure to me that Ahmadi Muslims do not remain hidden away and isolated, but in fact endeavour to form relations with all segments of society and make efforts to integrate and interact with people from all walks of life. And certainly this ought to be the hallmark of every true Ahmadi Muslim.”

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that in the West the majority of people held a fear of Islam and of Mosques in general. He said that people had no need to fear true Mosques because they were a place to worship God and to encourage all people to serve humanity and to act with justice.
His Holiness said:
“How can it be, that a person whose life is governed by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and whose sole aim is to acquire God’s pleasure, that he could ever cause any form of disorder or strife in society? And furthermore, how can it be that in a Mosque a Muslim learns to usurp the rights of other people? This could never happen because it directly contravenes the teachings of Islam.”

His Holiness used his address to reassure all those in attendance that Ahmadi Mosques were true Mosques and thus were a place of safety and peace. His Holiness said:
“It is with complete conviction and confidence that I say to all of you that the only message that that you will ever hear from an Ahmadi Mosque is a call urging people towards God Almighty, and a call to fulfil the rights of God’s Creation.”
His Holiness concluded by stating that the name of the Mosque he was inaugurating actually meant a ‘place of peace and security’ and thus it would be a means of protection not just for those who enter it but those who surround it.
His Holiness said:
“Certainly, the local people of this area will find that all Ahmadis will always remain at the forefront of every effort that is made towards transforming hatred and enmity into love and peace. Thus I hope and very much expect that this mosque will become a symbol of peace and a beacon of light not just in the local area but for the entire city and indeed the wider world.”

Message of Peace to Pope Benedict

6th December 2011

PRESS RELEASE
World Muslim leader sends Message of Peace to Pope Benedict
World should judge religions on their true teachings
The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has sent a direct message to Pope Benedict XVI calling for the Pope to use his influence to encourage religious tolerance and the establishment of human values throughout the world.
The message was delivered personally by the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Kababir, Muhammad Sharif Odeh, who met the Pope as part of an official delegation of renowned Israeli religious scholars.
In his message, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, spoke of the perilous state of the world. He said:
“It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world closely, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As a consequence of so many countries having nuclear weapons, grudges and enmities are increasing and the world sits on the precipice of destruction.
I believe it is essential, that we urgently increase our efforts to save the world from this destruction. There is an urgent need for mankind to recognise its Creator as this is the only guarantor for the survival of humanity.”
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also said that the world should judge religions on their true teachings, not on the misguided acts of individuals or groups. He said:
“If a person does not follow a particular teaching properly whilst claiming to subscribe to it, then it is he who is in error, not the teaching.
From cover to cover, the Holy Qur’an teaches love, affection, peace, reconciliation and the spirit of sacrifice. Hence, if anybody portrays Islam as an extreme and violent religion filled with teachings of bloodshed, then such a portrayal has no link with the real Islam.”
Speaking about the role of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community practises only the true Islam and works purely to please God Almighty. If any Church or other place of worship stands in need of protection, they will find us standing shoulder to shoulder with them. If any message resonates from our mosques it will only be that of Allah is great and that we bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Him and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.”
His Holiness concluded by praying for world peace and urging all other parties to play their respected roles for this all important pursuit. He said:
“It is my prayer that we all understand our responsibilities and play our role in establishing peace and love, and for the recognition of our Creator in the world. We ourselves have prayer, and we constantly beseech Allah that may this destruction of the world be avoided. I pray that we are saved from the destruction that awaits us.”

Dutch Government Defends Ahmadiyya Muslim

http://www.alislam.org/egazette/press-release/report-dutch-government-defends-ahmadiyya-muslim-jamaat-from-false-allegations/

29th November 2011

PRESS RELEASE
REPORT: Dutch Government Defends Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at from false allegations
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat abhors all forms of terrorism
On 19 October 2011, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat issued a Press Release entitled World Muslim Leader sends warning to Dutch Politician Geert Wilders (copy attached in PDF).
The Press Release was based on a Friday Sermon delivered by Hadhrat Khalifa-tul Masih V (aba) , Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, in Holland on 14 October 2011. During the Sermon, His Holiness warned the opponents of Islam, and in particular Mr Geert Wilders, about the consequences of their lies and false propaganda about Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw).
His Holiness also used the Sermon to praise the efforts of Queen Beatrix to promote interfaith harmony and tolerance.
Following the publication of the Press Release, Geert Wilders who is the leader of the PVV Party in Holland took notice of its issue and in response sent the following three questions to Holland’s national Interior Ministry:
1.     Are you (the Interior Ministry) familiar with the article ‘World Muslim Leader sends warning to Dutch Politician Geert Wilders’ ?
2.     (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad has said ‘ Listen carefully, you, your party and every other person like you will ultimately be destroyed…? What measures does the Interior Ministry plan to take against this Islamic organisation calling for violence?
3.     How is the Ahmadiyya community in the Netherlands related to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community worldwide and to (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad?
In response the following answers were given by the Dutch Interior Minister:
1.     Yes (I am familiar with the article).
2.     According to the Press Release, (Hadhrat) Mr Masroor Ahmad said that such people or groups are not destroyed by violence or other secular activities, but through prayer. In the remarks I see nothing that incites or calls for violence, so I see little cause for any action against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
3.     The Dutch Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is part of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
(These responses were reported by the Nieuws Press Agency in Holland on 14 November 2011.)
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat takes this opportunity to thank the Dutch Interior Ministry for fully studying the contents and context of the Press Release issued on 19 October 2011.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat abhors all forms of terrorism and categorically rejects all sectarian or religious violence.
Whilst it is true, that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat takes every opportunity to defend true Islam, it does so only through entirely peaceful means and through prayer. It also condemns in the strongest terms those so called Muslims who misrepresent true Islam as a religion of violence and extremism.

Warning to dutch politician Geert Wilders

19th October 2011

PRESS RELEASE
World muslim leader sends warning to dutch politician Geert Wilders
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also praises Queen Beatrix
During a recent visit to Holland, the world Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, issued a stark warning to Geert Wilders, the far-right Dutch politician. He warned Wilders that if he continued to defame Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) then he and other like-minded individuals would be humiliated by God Almighty.
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that Wilders had exceeded all limits of falsehood and hatred in his opposition towards Islam. He said Wilders was motivated solely by a desire to further his own political ambitions and so the time had come to warn him about the consequences of his actions. He said that irrespective of whether Wilders gained further political capital in the short term, ultimately his antics would lead only towards abject failure and humiliation.
Addressing Wilders directly, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“Listen carefully – You, your party and every other person like you will ultimately be destroyed. But the religion of Islam and the message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will remain forever. No worldly power, no matter how powerful and no matter how much hatred they bear towards Islam, will ever succeed in erasing our religion.”
His Holiness explained that the destruction of such individuals would be achieved through prayer alone and not by any worldly means. He said:
“Always remember, that we can achieve nothing without prayer. We have no worldly power, nor will we ever use any worldly force. But the prayers of people whose hearts have been grieved are enough to shake the Heavens.”
Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also spoke of the many decent people who continued to live in Holland and who rejected wholeheartedly the extremist views perpetuated by Wilders. His Holiness said that all such people who care for the feelings of one another and who believe in religious freedom should come together and launch a campaign for peace in the world. This is something that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has long advocated and has been involved with throughout the world.
During his visit, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, also took the opportunity to praise the efforts of Queen Beatrix towards promoting inclusiveness and equality.
Speaking about her efforts, His Holiness said:
“All Ahmadi Muslims should pray for Queen Beatrix because certain sections of the local society have turned against her, due to the fact that she has openly condemned the anti-Islam movement in this country. They are also angry because she advocates the right of Muslims to be treated as full and equal citizens, whose rights and feelings should be respected. Thus we must pray that all plans and schemes against the Queen completely fail.”
